Power supply restored in 24 hours in West Patna

PATNA: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited (BSPHCL) has decided to reward 11 technical officials of Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL), including its MD, for restoration of power supply in West Patna in a record 24 hours.
The power supply was disrupted in Digha-Khagaul transmission line (132 kV) following damage to two cables resulting in complete breakdown of power supply in West Patna on Friday at 2.55pm.

With quick action by the entire BSPTCL team, the damage point was located and a fresh circuit has been created to make alternative arrangement. The power supply in West Patna was restored on Saturday at around 11.05pm, said BSPHCL CMD Pratyaya Amrit on Sunday.
It was earlier expected that the supply restoration work could take at least a week. "Due to round-the-clock work done by the BSPTCL team, power supply was restored in a record time," Pratyaya said.
Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday evening, the CMD said: "In order to boost their morale, we have decided to give award to 11-member BSPTCL team." They will be given a sum of Rs 5,000 each, besides citation and a shawl.
The officials to be awarded are Sanjay K Singh, B Verma, Dadan Prasad Singh, Arun K Singh, Arun K Yadav, Chittaranjan Rai, Tanmay Pathak, Rohit Kumar, Shivesh Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Mukesh Bhardwaj.
For the permanent repair of the cable, a team of transmission repair agency has reached Patna from Satna. Eight jointing kits have already reached New Delhi from Sweden. Kits would be available here by Monday evening, the CMD said.

The CMD also said an FIR was lodged against the contractor of Gammon India for damage to the cable network during road construction work. "In future if such an action is repeated by the agency, we will be forced to impose damages on them," he said, adding Gammon India has also been asked to give prior information before taking up any digging work. They have promised not to repeat such incidents in future, he said.
Pratyaya said to upgrade the technical skills of electrical engineers, it has been decided to send a team of 10 shortlisted engineers to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a week from August 17. The next batch of engineers would be sent in October.
